Passion: you need to be passionate about your idea or your skill. If you don't believe in your idea nobody else will. Besides, it takes at least 6 years from initial equity funding to Exit (M&A or IPO) so even if your idea makes it to series A funding, the journey after that is long and difficult. Only the strong (and really passionate) survive.

Spike: we like "spiky" people. You are an excellent developer but lack  the billion dollar idea. Or very creative but need someone to bounce ideas off, or a team to implement it.
